Texas City, TX
June 27 - July 3
Registration opens January 1, 2010 for Lewinsville's 21st annual Summer Mission Project!
This year we will work in Texas City, TX (about one hour southeast of Houston) and assist with the continuing rebuilding efforts following the devasting effects of Hurricane Ike in September, 2008. Click on the video link below to learn more: The Forgotten Storm
Cost:
A $50 deposit is due with a signed convenant (print the information packet available in the "Downloads" section) by February 28.
All participants are also required to collect a minimum of $300 in sponsorships by April 1. Fundraising tips can be found in the "Downloads" section.
The anticipated cost per person (including airfare, accommodations, meals and van rentals) will be close to $425 so anything you raise over $300 will be appreciated and save us from having to host general fundraisers.
Trip Description:
We will fly to Houston and stay in a volunteer village sponsored by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance located on the grounds of First Presbyterian Church in Texas City. There will be sleeping for 40 in two bunk trailers with overflow space available in the church. Each trailer is air-conditioned and has a bathroom. There is a separate trailer with hot water showers. The church is also equipped with a gym and several large rooms for meetings and general free time.
The exact work we will be doing will not be known until we get closer to June. Hurricane Ike was a historic disaster and the rebuilding efforts will continue for many years.
For full trip details, please print the information packet available in the "Downloads" section.

NOTE: Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are not considered complete until we receive both a deposit check AND a signed covenant. Incomplete registrations or registrations received after the February 28 deadline will go on a waiting list and the applicant will be notified if a space becomes available.
The waiting list cleared quickly last year due to a number of cancellations and we actually ended up with a final group of 48, so don’t be discouraged if you find yourself on the waiting list. Chances are good that you will end up participating after all.
